When?

Stage 3 will be undertaken in two parts – stages 3a and 3b.

Stage 3a began in November 2023 and finished around June 2024. Construction for stage 3b is scheduled to begin in 2025 and take approximately 12-months to complete.

Overview

Stage 3a)

Replaced approximately 170m of pipeline from under the Caltex truck stop and the old rail crossing on Seaview Road.

Stage 3b)

Consists of the more substantive construction works, with approximately 1.8km of pipework needing to be laid in Port Road.

What impact will Stage 3 have on the community?

Stage 3b)

The pipeline will be predominantly buried in the shoulder of Port Road, Marchbanks and Toops streets. This will necessitate the removal of car-parking on both sides of the road in the vicinity of the works to maintain 2-way traffic flow. It can be expected that 50 – 80m of carparking at a time will be affected, with those parks being reinstated as the work front progresses. Additionally, the end of Port Road (where it intersects with Marine Drive and Seaview Road) will require both a partial and a full road closure when the pipe is trenched across this section of the road. Electronic signage boards will be strategically placed to warn people of the road closure, and the period that the closure is in place will be kept to a minimum (likely 6-weeks).

Consultation with the community and affected businesses will occur prior to the end of this year with a view to understanding how we can best undertake this project to minimise the impact on their activities.
